Ernst Schön
1907 Wien - 2010 San Diego Ernst/Ernest Schoen, born August 6, 1907 in Vienna, trumpet player, singer, violinist. 1920 debut as boy soloist at the Vienna State Opera (son of the Bailiff in Werther by Jules Massenet), besides vocal training and trumpet, violin instruction at the Vienna Music Academy. From 1923 substitute violin in State Opera orchestra, later trumpet player, violinist and singer of light music. For the first performance of Robert Katscher’s ‘Wunderbar’ (text Farkas / Herczeg) the combo ‘The 6 Melody Makers’ was founded, with Ernst Schoen as bandleader, trumpet player and singer, appearances at the Kammerspiele, musician in bars, restaurants, hotels in Austria and abroad, international concert tours, a.o.trumpet plaxer with Marek Weber band, radio programs (the singing violinist', with Hanns Elin/Jelinek) at the RAVAG ( Austrian Broadcast Company). 1938 exile via Czechoslovakia to Malaysia, where Schoen conducted a dance band in Kuala Lumpur's ‘Selangor Club’ and played chamber music in Singapore. 1941 emigration to the USA, where he acted as soloist for the San Francisco Opera Company, during the war conductor of a US-Army band. After 1945 a.o. studio musician for film music, night club musician in Hollywood, first violin Utah State Symphony Orchestra. From 1955 musical director of ‘Ilona Massey’ – television show’ and musician in the most elegant restaurants and night bars in New York, numerous recordings, tours abroad. Ernest Schoen passed away August 6, 2010 in San Diego.
