Paul Philipp
1918 Wien - 2004 Nice Paul Philipp, born August 17, 1918 in Vienna, singer, composer and psychologist, After drama, film and operetta studies at the Wiener Konservatorium first engagements in Viennas Eden Bar, 'Café Hochhaus', later on Sofia and Prague. 1937 Winner of the Silver Award Jazz Singer Competition in Vienna; engaged as singer with leading dance orchestra (Ballorchester Leo Jaritz). A few weeks before the annexation of Austria he was en route in France with a Viennese revue company; he did not return to Austria. Later on he was able to get his father and younger brother Peter out of Vienna. In France winner of the 'Music Hall des Jeunes' competition, followed by radio performances in 'Music Hall de Dimanche' of Radio Cité and contracts for Paris and Nice performances. Interned in French internment camps Antibes and les Milles, he eventually escaped the 'train fantôme' and crossed the Pyrenees on foot to Spain. His father and brother, who had not dared to leave the train, were deported to Auschwitz and did not survive. In Spain Paul Philipp was interned in the Miranda del Hebro internment camp. After liberation a fresh start in Madrid, 1943 participation in the film 'El Camino de Babel'. As soon as France was free again he returned to Paris, where he had his own show with Radio Diffusion Francaise, and was engaged at the 'Le boef sur le toit' cabaret. 1947 he emigrated to the USA, where after a fresh start as jazz singer, he finally decided to study psychology. In addition to his professional work as a psychologist in the USA he still wrote songs and chansons. After his retirement he rturned to France . 1999 his first CD Chansons Classiques is released (Harmonis PP 9901).
Paul Philipp passed away in 2004 in Nizza.
